The road
M34 north through the Varzob gorge and the Anzob tunnel to Sarvoda, then 23 km of gravel up the Iskander Darya — fine for a sedan in dry weather, rough after rain.
Worth stopping
- Varzob gorge and Takob turn-off.
- The Fan Niyon waterfall below the lake (short walk from the parking).
- Snake Lake (Zmeinoe), a 10-minute walk from the shore.

- There is a small entry fee for foreigners at the lake (about 30 somoni reported in 2024 — we check before your trip).
- Season: May to October. In winter the side road can be snowed in; ask us.
